Located at foot of Los Andes highest mountains, Mendoza is obligatory gateway to Pacific Ocean. The weather is pleasant: temperate, with little rains and with very few days windy, by to mountain range protection.
Mendoza City is located as one of the most important in Argentine Republic, positioned as 4th conglomerate in country, a strategic point of MERCOSUR socio-economic development and a link with Chile.
It presents with a city-oasis physiognomy, which finds in artificial irrigation the existence foundation. Therefore, its distinctive elements: groves, ditches, wide sidewalk and green spaces offer to residents and visitors an excellent life quality. Mendoza has an artificial park of 510 hectares, which bears name of the Liberator of America, General San Martín.
To city can be arrived by plane, via Aeropuerto Internacional Francisco Gabrielli, or by land, through national routes No. 40 & No. 7, which connect Mendoza with entire country from north to south and from east to west, and also with Chile.
The city as a whole is an attraction in itself. Founded in 1561 by Pedro Del Castillo, its gastronomy plays a fundamental role, both in hotels with their global food and in small typical and traditional restaurants with exquisite dishes. The variety is extensive: from roasts and typical snacks to ethnic foods of oriental, Spanish or Italian origin, watered with the best wines of our land.
It has a dynamic artistic and cultural activity: theaters, museums, art galleries and handicraft samples enrich daily offer. Open and always alive, pubs, places to relax and dance, theaters, cinemas and casinos are open until late at night. The city is ideal starting point for excursions to important tourist attractions of province, such as wine roads, mountains, rivers, hot springs and nature reserves.
For all this, Mendoza City invites visitors to remeeting with nature, history, new friends and –why not?– with himself. On October, 30th 1987, our city was named as “Global Wine Capital” by OIV and designated as “8th World Wine Capital”, chosen as one of 21th most wonderful cities around the world in New7Wonders Cities contest. It is part of a worldwide network together with other famous wine cities such as Bordeaux or Firenze, among others, fact that places Mendoza wines in an unbeatable position in the world, with malbec as its flagship variety.
